Thomas was born in Illinois and lived in Wisconsin until the 5th grade. At this early age, he learned a strong work ethic while working on his grandfather's dairy farm in Humbird, Wisconsin.
In the 5th grade, Thomas moved to Arlington, Texas, and stayed in that area until his senior year at Lamar High School. While there, Thomas played football for the Lamar Vikings and was part of their first ever state playoff team.
Due to family obligations, Thomas moved to Treynor, Iowa, just outside of Omaha, Nebraska, for his senior year of high school. While there, Thomas earned a scholarship to play baseball and football at Graceland College, a NAIA school in Lamoni, Iowa.
After completing a year at Graceland College, Thomas moved to Sunset, Texas, with his family when they took over management of TK Ranch. He then transferred to the University of North Texas and earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice while working at United Parcel Service in Dallas.
Armed with a criminal justice degree, Thomas then gained employment with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a parole officer in Fort Worth . This employment sparked an interest in the law that lead to his enrollment in Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
While in law school, Thomas worked for a year as an intern for Greg Lowery in the Wise County Attorney's Office. He had the duties of preparing cases for trial and intake and writing appeal briefs. This was great experience for a young law student. While at this internship, he found his calling and the location for that calling - prosecuting in Wise County. However, that would have to remain on hold for a little while longer.
After receiving his law degree, Thomas worked for a small firm in Bowie. During that time, Thomas was elected to the BISD School Board and served as an officer on the Bowie Chamber of Commerce.
Thomas still felt a yearning to be a prosecutor. After a year of private practice, he started his career as a prosecutor in Cooke County. Tanya Davis hired Thomas to work as her assistant in the County Attorney's Office in Gainesville.
After about six months working in Cooke County, Greg Lowery called Thomas and asked him to work as his assistant in the Wise County Attorney's Office. Thomas agreed to take the position and has never looked back.
While as assistant, Thomas has had varied experience and responsibilities. He had the honor to argue a Wise County case in front of the highest criminal court in Texas, the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin. He has also tried many challenging criminal cases. In one such case, he won a jury DWI conviction on a .059 blood test when the legal limit is .08.
Thomas resides in Alvord where he is an active member of the First Baptist Church. He is in avid runner and cyclist.
